ORCIA VALLEY ITINERARYStop at Montepulciano : ancient village which surrounding walls are of etrusc origin, free visit
to the centre and to old wineries where it is possible to taste and buy Nobile wine. Visit to
Piazza Grande. Driving through a contemplative landscape we reach Pienza : historic small
centre of classic architecture and shops of typical products as "Pecorino-cheese", salami
and Tuscan wines. Stop for a visit and a snack.
Travelling across Val d'Orcia, passing near Monticchiello and San Quirico, we reach Bagno
Vignoni : stop to visit the pretty village where the ancient Romans used to stop for bathing in
warm thermal waters which still keep on springing from the ground into a pool aged 1500 C.E.
The hilly landscape around is very evocative. The warms and curative (especially for bones)
waters are now channeled also into a modern out side swimming-pool open to the public in all
seasons. They suggest not to bath more than 15 minutes because of the water temperature
which is about 40°.
Back to Arezzo passing through Chianciano Terme to the Motorway A1.
