San Gimignano
San Gimignano is about 90km from Arezzo. It is a charming small town situated on a hill and overlooking a splendid valley, Val d’Elsa. It is famous for the towers, squares in red bricks, narrow lanes with antiques shop and medieval buildings.
Life here seems to be the same as in 1200. It is a Unesco World Heritage city.
Gubbio
Gubbio is 86km from Arezzo. It is an attractive medieval town which is famous for its monuments and fascinating atmosphere. Don’t miss ‘Il Palio della Balestra’ and ‘La Corsa dei Ceri’.

Assisi
Assisi is 95km from Arezzo. Its is situated on the Mount Subasio and overlooking two valleys, Val del Topino and Val del Chiascio. Medieval narrow and steep lanes, mystic atmosphere, Franciscan places of worship and works of art make it a special place and a popular attraction among pilgrims and tourists.
Perugia
Perugia, only 75km from Arezzo, was an important Etruscan city and later conquered by the Romans. A modern system of escalators takes you up to the old town which is situated on a hill. Two are the events you shouldn’t miss: Umbria Jazz Festival - the most important Jazz Festival in Europe – and the Eurochocolate Festival in Autumn.
Pienza
Pienza, only 55km, is a small town not far from Siena which is a rare example of splendid Renaissance town planning. It’s been either called ‘the ideal city’ or ‘the utopian city’ as it represents the Renaissance model of ideal life and government, that is a town where you could live and work in peace. It is located in the beautiful Val d’Orcia and its position makes it clear how important the relationship between man and nature was during the Renaissance.

Chiusi della verna
Chiusi della Verna is up in the mountains at about 40km from Arezzo. Here amid silver beech trees rises the Sanctuary of La Verna, one of the most famous Franciscan places of worship

Caprese Michelangelo
Caprese Michelangelo, only 57km away, is a nice old mountain village amid chestnut trees. It is the birthplace of Michelangelo Buonarroti and you shouldn’t miss Casa del Podestà, his house, which is now a museum displaying copies of his masterpieces and interesting works by contemporary sculptors.

San Sepolcro and Anghiari
San Sepolcro and Anghiari are at about 30km from Arezzo. They are two nice medieval small towns rich in history art and tradition. While driving there you’ll be surprised to see landscapes and architectures dear to Piero della Francesca.
In Spring there’s an interesting Arts and Crafts Fair in Anghiari.

Lucignano
Lucignano, only 26km away, is considered the pearl of the Valdichiana. It’s an outstanding example of medieval architecture and town planning: elliptical plan and concentric streets. Walk along the narrow streets and feel the charming mixed atmosphere of past and traditions.Every year in spring there’s a nice festival, called La Maggiolata, a kind of p ropitiatory rite for a good harvest.

Foiano
Foiano, only 25km away, is a small town of ancient origins. Walk along the two circles of walls and the historical centre in Renaissance style and enjoy the many events which take place all the year round - one of the oldest Carnivals in Italy, the Flowers Market and the Handicrafts Trade Fair only to mention some.
Cortona
Cortona, only 31km away, is a small but fascinating city situated on a commanding hill and overlooking the Valdichiana, Lake Trasimeno and the Mount Amiata in the distance. It’s a nice medieval town and an important archaeological site too. It’s an attractive place to spend half a day with great art and great atmosphere.
Casentino
It’s only 32km away and is located in the upper Arno valley, in the North-east of Tuscany.
Siena
Siena is only 55km away and it’s certainly one of the most beautiful cities in Tuscany. It lies in the Chianti Valley amid vineyards and olive groves. Boulevards and narrow lanes leads you to the heart of the town: Piazza del Campo, the Cathedral and the Spedale Santa Maria della Scala. It’s famous for the Palio Horse Race which takes places every year on 2nd July and 16th August.
Florence
Florence is only 70km away and it’s no doubt worth a visit. It’s considered the cradle of art and architecture and it’s known throughout the world as the "beautiful" city. It was an important cultural, financial and commercial centre in the Middle Ages and later on the home of the Grand Duke and the Royal family, the Medici. It became the heart of the Renaissance and the meeting point of artists and poets.
Arezzo
The town is situated in lowlands where four valleys meet – Valdichiana, Valtiberina, Casentino and Valdarno – in the south-east of Tuscany. At first sight it looks like one of the many Medieval Tuscan cities, but if you walk along the old town centre you’ll find out there are buildings and churches of the Renaissance too. Famous artists were born, lived and worked here: Vasari, Petrarch, Michelangelo, Piero della Francesca and Cimabue are among them.
